Katherine Yelton Turner

Katherine Yelton Turner, 85, of Morganton passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017.  Born on May 22, 1932 in Golden Valley, NC, she was the daughter of the late Lee Yelton and Affie Brandle Yelton.  She was a member of Cane Creek Baptist Church in Union Mills, NC.

Katherine grew up on a farm but was told that going to school was also an important job.  She graduated from Sunshine School in Bostic, NC as the valedictorian of her senior class.  She had a speech prepared but did not need it for her presentation. 

Mrs. Turner was employed at Broughton Hospital and retired as the supervisor of housekeeping.  After retirement, she loved spending time with her family (including her church family), canning produce from the garden, and doing word search puzzles.

Katherine is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert P. Turner of the home; a son, David Turner and wife, Leslie, of Denver, NC; grandchildren, Megan and Justin Turner of Denver; a sister, Hannah Yelton Ledford and husband, Roy, of Morganton; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews; and many friends from work and church who were considered family.

In addition to her parents, Katherine was preceded in death by 2 children, Donna Turner Fields and Danny Turner.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, November 27, 2017 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Cane Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Camp officiating.  Burial will follow in Golden Valley Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Linda Stack Morgan officiating.
