Kathryn Whisnant of Morganton, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully after years of declining health on February 7, 2020 at College Pines Nursing Facility. Born in Wilkes County, June 26, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Dallas and Vernice Ingram. A Jonesville High School graduate, she went on to Grace Hospital School of Nursing in Morganton, graduating in 1948. Always wanting to help others, Kat worked as a nurse in several capacities: a Labor and Delivery nurse at Grace Hospital, in the private practice of Dr. J. B. Helms, and at Broughton Hospital among others. Kat so enjoyed nursing, she co-authored the 75th year anniversary history of Grace Hospital and was one of the founding members of the Pink Ladies Volunteers.
Kat was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Whisnant, son, Paul Whisnant, and granddaughter Liz Dalmas Lloyd. She is survived by daughter Tina Conley and husband Charles, son Scott Whisnant and wife Dana, all of Morganton, grandson Neil Dalmas (Ashley) of Frisco, TX, granddaughter Alison Saville (Steve) of Knoxville, TN, granddaughter Adair Cates (Chris) of Atlanta, GA, five great grandchildren and numerous close family friends including caregivers Larissa Schartner, Nelson Poole, and Stephanie Baker.
Kat had a great love for life. She was happiest at the beach with a good book. She enjoyed her evening toddy when friends and family gathered to visit. She was a good friend, offering support and advice to many, and was a loving Nanny to all her grandchildren.
