Kathy Denise Benfield

Kathy Denise Benfield, 55, of Morganton, NC, attained her heavenly home on Wednesday, January 12, 2022. Born in Burke County, NC on January 11, 1967, Kathy was very energetic, gaining the nickname “Road Runner”. She had a very loving soul with a smile that could light up any room. Kathy enjoyed long conversations with her family and friends, whether it was in person or on the phone. In her free time, she loved trips to the Beach, playing bingo, creating art, shopping and of course playing candy crush. Kathy attended Praise Assembly of God , where she found welcoming friends that she held dear to her heart. A loving daughter and sister, Kathy is survived by her parents Joyce Kral Benfield and Oscar Tellis Benfield ; sisters Sherry Benfield Calhoun (J.T Calhoun) and Pam Benfield Burgoon (Tom Burgoon); nieces, Lauren Calhoun, Regan Calhoun, Hayley Burgoon, and nephew Ryan Burgoon. Uncles, Mike Kral, Rodney Kral and Rex Benfield; aunts, Peggy Webb and Sharon Mundy; numerous cousins and extended family; and special friends, Michelle Puckett, Kelly Bowers Messenheimer and Lynn Bowers Caudle. Kathy was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Mary Virginia Kral and Joseph Michael Kral; paternal grandparents, Zalie Elizabeth Benfield and Melvin Tellis Benfield; and uncle, Jim Kral.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Praise Assembly of God with Revs. Kevin Crawford and Ned Webb officiating.
