Ken Hemmings, Sr., 73, of Drexel passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 15, 2017. Born in Surry County, NC on March 13, 1944, he was the son of the late Lewis James Hemmings and Annice Marshall Hemmings. Ken was a former member of Mull’s Grove Baptist Church. Along with his son, he owned and operated I-40 Used Auto Parts. He was an avid golfer and was a veteran of the NC National Guard.
A loving father and grandfather, Ken is survived by his son, Kenneth Hemmings, Jr. and wife, Lisa, of Morganton; daughter, Priscilla Stamps and husband, Don, of Florida; grandchildren, Kyle Hemmings and wife, Jessica, Kelli Whisenant and husband, Tyler; Shelbie Stamps, and Amaris Stamps; a great-granddaughter, Tyla Hemmings; his former wife, Trudie Carswell Hemmings; brother, Jim Hemmings and wife, Violet; and his beloved granddog, Turbo.
A celebration of Ken’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Burke Memorial Park with the Rev. Jesse Carr officiating. The family will greet friends in the cemetery following the service.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
