Kenneth Dean Hughes

Kenneth Dean Hughes, 74, of Morganton, NC died Thursday, November 17, 2011 at his residence. Born in Yancey County, NC on October 3, 1937, he was the son of the late Rex and Helen Silvers Hughes.Kenneth was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from Great Lakes Carbon after 40 years and loved to garden and camp.A loving husband, father, and Pa-Paw, Kenneth is survived by sons, Rodney Hughes and wife, Sherry, of Morganton, Greg Hughes and wife, Sharon, of Nebo, NC, and Sam Hughes and wife, Charlotte, of Old Fort, NC; grandchildren, Jenna, Seth, Emory, Walker, Luke, Meghan, and Rebecca Hughes; brothers, Charles Hughes and Keith Hughes, and sister, Rita Faye Robinson.In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Willie Dale Hughes.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Mtn. View #2 Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Mashburn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
