Kenneth Guy "Johnny" Johnson

Kenneth Guy "Johnny" Johnson, Sr., 72 of South Mountain Institute Rd., Nebo, NC died Monday, April 1, 2013 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital, Lenoir, NC. Born December 6, 1940 in Avery County, NC, he was a son of the late Shoner and Hope Meredith Johnson. He was a devoted Christian who loved reading the Bible and attending Oak Grove Baptist Church where he was a member. Johnny was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed making crafts of which woodworking was his favorite. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Abraham Johnson.A devoted and loving husband, son, father, grandfather, and brother, Johnny is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Laura Dellinger Johnson; a son, Kenneth Guy Johnson, Jr. of Nebo; grandchildren, Kaelee Cheyennee Johnson and Shoner Kade Johnson; brothers, Shoner Kyle Johnson, Jr. and wife, Mary of Morganton, David Russell Johnson of Newland, and Daniel Paul Johnson of Nebo; sisters, Mona Clark, Becky Hoilman and husband, Herman, Martha Aldridge and husband, Mike all of Newland, and Amanda Keck and husband, David of Denver, NC.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Reverends Gyles Widener and Josh Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes before the service.
