Kenneth “Ken” Salthouse, 97, of Morganton, NC passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017. Born in Taunton, Massachusetts on June 29, 1919, he was the son of the late John Emile Salthouse and Ethel Mae Adshead Salthouse. Ken was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder and on numerous committees. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant with the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and achieved the rank of Major with the Air Force Reserve. Ken was a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and was a retired engineer for Great Lakes Carbon.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Mr. Salthouse is survived by his son, Curt Salthouse and wife, Alice, of Boone, NC; daughter, Jean Leonard and husband, Larry, of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Burton Salthouse and wife, Ashley, Jake Salthouse, Christin Austin and husband, Wes, Jonathan Leonard and fiancée, Macey, and Alex Leonard and fiancée, Cierra; great-grandchildren, Mercy, Hosanna, Ruth, and Noah Salthouse, and Caroline and Finley Austin; sister-in-law, Dot Findley; brother-in-law, Mike Meadors; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Adelphia Findley Salthouse.
The graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Honea Path Garden of Memories (Garden of Memories Road, Belton, SC 29627).
A celebration of Ken’s life will be held at 11am, Monday, March 27, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church (100 Silver Creek Rd., Morganton, NC 28655) with the Rev. Adam Bowling and the Rev. Wanda Neely officiating. The family will greet friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
