Committal
Kermit Cyrus Brittain passed away on Friday, April 16th, 2021 at the age of 92 after a sudden illness, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest. Kermit was born on April 10, 1929, in Morganton, NC. He served proudly in the USAF, was an educator for Burke County Schools, a devoted family man, and a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Kermit completed his Bachelor’s degree in education from Lenoir Rhyne College. He loved teaching and the students he came into contact with. The simplest pleasures in life brought Kermit great joy. He loved his dogs, watching the Atlanta Braves play baseball, and doing handyman projects around the house. But what brought him the most joy was sharing stories about his younger years with everyone he knew and met. Never having met a stranger, Kermit’s outgoing personality was contagious to everyone he came in contact with and anyone willing to listen.
Kermit is preceded in death by his Mother and Father, Robert and Ola Brittain; brothers Lawrence, Jack, Milton, and sister Ozelle as well as his grandsons Sheldon and Derek Brittain.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Peggy; son Mark of Morganton, daughters, Cindi of Florida (Neil) and Missy of Virginia (Robert); 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Fritz (Emily) of Rochelle, VA, Bobby. of Rochelle, VA, and Donald of Delaware, brother -in-Law; Michael Young (Libby) of Hilton Head, South Carolina.
The family will receive friends from 3 until 4pm, Thursday, April 22, 2021 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. A memorial service will follow in the church with the Rev. Scott Oxford officiating.
