Koeppie "Katie" Shelton, 85, of Morganton, NC died Wednesday, June 25, 2014. Born in Madison County, NC on September 13, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Albert King and Hattie Peace King. Katie was a founder and lifelong member of Grace Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She retired from Premier Hosiery and was an avid gardener. Her grandchildren were the loves of her life.
Katie is survived by her daughter, Brenda Stillwell and her husband, Larry, of Morganton; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Shelton of Morganton; grandchildren, Debbie Hasson and her husband, Ray, Amy George and her husband, Lewis, and Glenda Jackson and her husband, Scott; great-grandchildren, Brett Stamey and his wife, Candace, Taylor Hasson, Lauren Hasson, Vinny Palermo, Tyler Hasson, Mason George, Shelby George, Drake Jackson and his wife, Lauren, Casey Coffey and her husband, Jesse, and Clinton George and his wife, Tana; great-great-grandchildren, Dusty Lynn Stamey, Kaitlyn Coffey, Ada Mae Coffey, Briar George, and Brody George; and other "special family members", Betty Feimster, Mary Stillwell, and Allen and Linda Calhoun.
In addition to her parents, Katie was preceded in death by her husband, George Shelton; a son, John D. Shelton; brothers, Chester, Willis, and Auz King; and sisters, Mary Lou Bishop, Edna Cutshall, Martha Chandler, Pansy Thomas, and Robbie Gunter.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 28, 2014 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with the Rev. Marty Bess officiating. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the home of Brenda and Larry Stillwell on Jamestown Road, Morganton.
