Larry William Brantley Childres, 77 of Drexel, NC passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014. He was born in Burke County, on January 28, 1937 to the late Brantley Arthur and Maude Baker Childres.
Larry was a lifelong member of Drexel First Baptist Church. He was co-owner of Page & Childres Exxon in Drexel for 28 years. He loved his children, enjoyed fishing with his best friend, Bill Burns, and hunting with his son, Brian, cousin, Gene Page and other friends. Larry was an avid fan of the Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Braves and UNC Tar Heels. Larry is survived by his wife, Carolyn B. Childres, of the home; a daughter, Connie Brendle and husband, Kevin, of Drexel; a son, Brian Childres and wife, Cheryl, of Drexel; a grandson, Travis Ledford and wife, Stacey, of Morganton; a great-grandson, Hank Thomas; a brother, Ronny Childres and wife, Kay, of Morganton; a sister, Winona Childres of Drexel; nieces, Elizabeth Childres, Sandra Bennett and husband, Mark; a nephew, Kendall Childres; and Larry's feline companions, Miracle, Garfield, Sambo, and Sable.
Funeral services for Larry will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2014 at Drexel First Baptist Church with the Reverend Michael Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at Drexel Memorial Park with military honors provided by the NC National Guard. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m..
