Lassie Rhoney Brittain

Lassie Rhoney Brittain, 84, of Peyronel Street, Connelly Springs, NC, died Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at Valdese General Hospital following a period of declining health. Born in Lincoln County, NC on January 12, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Neal Rhoney and Cordia Willis Rhoney. Lassie was a member of Hildebran View Baptist Church. She retired from the Burke County School System after 17 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and she loved her church family. She enjoyed cooking for her family and caring for other people.She is survived by sons, Nathan "Bud" Brittain and wife, Debbie (deceased) and Tim Brittain and wife, Sandra, all of Connelly Springs; daughter, Faye Mitcham and husband, Gene, of Granite Falls, NC, Nancy Lowman and husband, Henry, Naomi Lowman and husband, Junior, and Shelia Sizemore, all of Connelly Springs; brother, Jack Rhoney of Valdese, NC, Neal Rhoney of Valdese, Eulan Rhoney of Hickory, NC, and Ray Rhoney of Connelly Springs; a sister, Willard Smith of Valdese; twelve grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Stanley Thomas Brittain; a son, Stanley Thomas Brittain, Jr.; a grandson, Randal Lowman; three brothers, Evan A. Rhoney, A.R. "Tut" Rhoney, and Epheus Rhoney; and two sisters, Eva Mae Reynolds and Della Hudson.The funeral will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, August 8, 2008 at Hildebran View Baptist Church with Reverends David Cassida, Leonard Lindsay, and Pat Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening at the church starting at 6:00 p.m. At other times the family will be at the residence, 6508 Peyronel Street, Connelly Springs, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hildebran View Baptist Church Building Fund, 6551 Hildebran View Street, Connelly Springs, NC 28612 or to Burke Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
