Lawrence Karmiol

Dr. Lawrence Karmiol, 96, of Memphis, TN died Monday, May 21, 2012. Born in New York City on February 29, 1916, he was the son of the late David and Sarah Karmiol. Dr. Karmiol was a member of Mullins United Methodist Church in Memphis. He was a graduate of the Boys School of Math and Science, received his undergrad from City College, NY, and he received his D.D.S. from New York University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII where he achieved the rank of Captain. He was a resident of Garden City, NY for 30 years before retiring to North Carolina and then to Memphis. His interests included gardening, photography, and traveling.A generous and loving man, Lawrence is survived by his daughters, Anne Sheffield of Chapel Hill, NC, Donna Wagner of Chapel Hill, and Rev. Linda Gabriel and her husband, Brad, of Germantown, TN; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Karmiol of Garden City, NY, and his feline companion, Puddy Cat.In addition to his parents, Dr. Karmiol was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth A. Mosteller Karmiol.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 25, 2012 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Frazier officiating. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum.
