Lee Roy Pruett, 87, of Morganton, NC, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2022. Born in Cleveland County, NC on June 5, 1934, he was the son of the late Lester Lee Pruett and Annie Belle Queen Pruett. Lee was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Missionary Ridge Baptist Church but attended Grace Baptist Church. He was a master gardener, craftsman carpenter, antique collector, and he enjoyed all types of fishing. Lee retired from Western Piedmont Community College as maintenance and grounds supervisor.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Lee is survived by his wife, Bernice Duckworth Pruett; daughters, Donna Pruett Shirley (Phil) and Kathy Pruett Buff (Jeff); grandsons, Leighton Phillip Shirley and Jake Waylon Wilson; great-granddaughter, Maisie Nova Wilson; brothers, Carl Pruett (Patricia) and Mark Pruett (Teresa); sisters, Pat Heavner (Home) and Betty Braswell; sister-in-law, Rhonda Fender Pruett; and brother-in-law, Fred Matthews.
In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by a son, Phil Pruett; brother, James Pruett; and sister, Ruth Matthews.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Grace Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the church with Rev. Marty Bess officiating. Burial will follow in Missionary Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the US Navy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Missionary Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or Grace Baptist Church Building Fund.
