Lela Elizabeth Smith

Lela Elizabeth Smith, 60, of Carolina St., Morganton, NC, died Thursday, October 9, 2008, at her residence following an extended illness. She was born in Burke County on June 19, 1948 and was the daughter of the late Roysville Luther Carswell and Margaret Ruth Carswell. Lela was a member of Faith Temple Tabernacle Church.Surviving are her son, Ivey Smith and his wife, Virginia; daughters, Betty Hardin and her husband, John all of Morganton and Kim Stamey of Drexel; sister, Betty Hudson of Morganton; brothers, Luther Carswell and his wife, Estelle of Jonas Ridge and Van Carswell and his wife, Ruth of Chesterfield; and grandchildren, Selena, Tyler, Daniel, Samara and Jewel.The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2008, at Faith Temple Tabernacle Church. The funeral will follow with Reverend Danny Sprouse officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
