Lennie Silver Harris

Lennie Silver Harris, 97, of NC 181, Morganton, died Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Grace Heights Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Burke County, NC on August 15, 1913, she was a daughter of the late David Alonzo Silver and Zena Norman Silver. Lennie was a 1932 graduate of Morganton High School, and shortly thereafter married John B. Harris, a neighbor. She was a homemaker who spent her entire life within a few miles of her birthplace. In recent years she lived with her daughter Helen Farris, and husband, Walter, and spent her summers with daughter, Doris Medlin, and husband, Bob. Lennie was a member of Mountain Grove United Methodist Church.She is survived by her daughters, Helen Farris, and husband, Walter, of Morganton, and Doris Medlin and husband, Bob, of Charlotte, NC; granddaughters, Wendy Proffitt and husband, Ron, and Dawn Medlin, both of Boone; grandsons, Tim Farris and wife, Pam, of Morganton, and Paul and Darryl Kennedy; great grandchildren, Erin Proffitt, Ben Proffitt, Matt Church, and Seth Farris; and a host of nephews and nieces.In addition to her parents, Lennie was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Harris; a son, John Silver Harris; brothers, Lee, Clarence, and Gaston Silver; and a sister, Buena Silver Coffey.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Mtn. Grove United Methodist Church with Reverends Neil Brantley and Betty Henson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Grove United Methodist Church, 3625 Fish Hatchery Road, Morganton, NC 28655.
