Leona Mann Thomas, 97, of Comers Rock, VA went to her Heavenly Home on Sunday, March 13, 2016. Born in Grayson County, VA on January 22, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Estel Ervin Roberts and Ollie Cleo Cornett Roberts. She attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church and Fellowship Baptist Church. During WWII Mrs. Thomas worked at Edgewood Arsenal. She also worked at various textile plants in Virginia and at Elk Creek Shell Restaurant for several years. Her and her husband farmed for many years. She also enjoyed flower gardening and making quilts.
Leona is survived by her sons, Leslie Roberts and his wife, Joan, of Morganton, NC and Truman Roberts and his wife, Janet, of Elk Creek, VA; a son-in-law, Bob Cornett of Bethel, VA; grandchildren, Kevin Cornett and his wife, Gaye, Mike Roberts and his wife, Kim, Travis Roberts and his wife, Priscilla, Chele Toothman and her husband, B.J., Jackie Humphrey and her husband, Brad, and Tracy Roberts and his wife, Jessie; great-grandchildren, Kevin II, Michael II, Emily, Newlin, Tye, Sammie, Staci, George, and Angus; great-great-grandchildren, Carter and Payleigh; brothers-in-law, Donald Parks and Elton Boyer; step-children by Lawrence Thomas, Minnie Kelsey, Frances Adams, and Joe Thomas; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Leona was preceded in death by her first husband, Sam Roberts; second husband, George Mann; third husband, Lawrence Thomas; a daughter, Gearlene Cornett; brothers, Gilbert, Olen, and Gale Roberts; and sisters, Cleo Carrico, Lattie Parks, Dot Boyer, and Freda Hale.
The graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Comers Rock Cemetery with Rev. Hall and Rev. Osbourne officiating. Due to the distance the family must travel, they will only be greeting friends in the cemetery following the service.
In lieu of a meal or flowers, donations may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
