Leonard Melton Dagenhart

Leonard Melton Dagenhart, 84, of Propst Rd., Morganton, NC died Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at his residence following a period of declining health. He was born November 1, 1922 in Iredell County, NC, and was a son of the late Roy Sylvester Dagenhart and Edna Elizabeth Johnson Dagenhart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Johnny and Richard Dagenhart. Leonard was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. He served in the US Navy during World War II, and was a retired employee of Henredon Furniture.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Virginia Propst Dagenhart of the home; daughters and their husbands, Cynthia and Ed Ward, and Elaine and Cecil Robinson, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Amanda Ward, Rachel Ward, Marilea Ward, and Jamie Ward; step-grandchild, Stephanie Robinson; step-great grandchildren, Tabitha and Angel Russ; and special nephews and their wives, Johnny and Wanda Dagenhart, Michael and Pat Dagenhart, and Ricky and Faye Dagenhart.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, April 5, 2007 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Dr. Dewey Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Post #234 of Valdese. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 until 3 pm at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence, 1966 Propst Rd., Morganton.
