Lewis Ashton Carson

Lewis Ashton Carson, 86 of Morganton, NC died Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Burke Hospice Palliative Care Center. Born December 1, 1926 in Orangeburg County, SC, he was a son of the late Lewis Ashton Carson, Sr. and Maggie Danteler Carson. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and he attended Walker’s Chapel Baptist Church. Mr. Carson was a retired office manager with the A.S.C.S., U.S. Department of Agriculture where he was employed for thirty years. He was a past president of the Burke County Farmers Market. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Mary Carswell Carson; daughters, Kathy Guthrie and her husband, John of Columbia, MD and Susan Nanney of Morganton; grandchildren, Andrew and Alex Guthrie, Ashley, Megan, and Ashton Nanney; and a number of nephews and nieces.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 11, 2013 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with the Rev. Danny McNeilly officiating. Burial will follow in Walker’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour before the service.
