Lige Hilemon

Lige Hilemon, 95, of Morganton went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 1, 2013. Born in Yancey County, NC on December 26, 1917, he was the son of the late C.W. Hilemon and Ann Morrow Hilemon. For many years Lige was an active member of Piney Hill Freewill Baptist Church. He was a self-employed carpenter and built homes in Yancey, Mitchell, Madison, Buncombe, and Burke Counties.Lige is survived by his children, Rosa Lee Peters and her husband, Vernon, of Nebo, NC, Eurite Hilemon and his wife, Wilma, of Burnsville, NC, Alma Radford of Morganton, Creed Hilemon of Lincolnton, NC, Barbara Robinson and her husband, Larry, of Morganton, Carolyn Smith of Nebo, NC, Betty Robinson and her husband, David, of Morganton; and Robin Hilemon of Morganton; twenty-five grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, William "Bill" Hilemon and his wife, Gloria, of Monmouth Junction, NJ.In addition to his parents, Lige was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Higgins Hilemon; two sons, Ottis and Kenneth Hilemon; three brothers, Clyde, John, and Dave Hilemon; and two sisters, Lora Edwards and Linda Silvers.The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 4, 2013 at Piney Hill Freewill Baptist Church in Burnsville, NC with Rev. Bill Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Proffitt Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the home, 105 Dogwood Ridge Road, Morganton.Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
