Lila Mae Parker Smith

Lila Mae Parker Smith, 93, formerly of Northwestern Dr. in Morganton, died Monday, December 18, 2006 following a period of declining health. She was born April 26, 1913 and was a daughter of the late Albert and Mary Gilbert Parker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie L. Smith; two brothers and four sisters. Lila was a graduate of Glen Alpine High School, and retired from W. R. Patton Construction Company after 32 years of employment. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where Lila was a member of the R.T. Claywell Sunday school class and also held several offices at the church. She was a member and past president of the Morganton Pilot Club. For many years, she served as a Pink Lady with the Grace Hospital Guild.

She is survived by a daughter, Margaret York Causby and husband, Nelson, of Morganton; grandchildren, Beth York Isenhower and Sandi York, both of Morganton, John York and wife, Kathy, of Arden, NC, and Kathryn Causby of Raleigh, NC; a step-granddaughter, Nelsonya Moorehead of Berkley, CA; great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Harrison York, Kayla Adams, Mack Isenhower, Jessica and Christopher Edwards, and Rob Warren; step-great grandchildren, Avery and Brooke Moorehead; and a great great-grandson, Ethan Cox.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 21, 2006 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Sydnor Thompson, III and Rev. Holly Cobb Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Margaret and Nelson Causby, 113 Normandy Dr., Morganton.
