Lillian Baker Cordell, 82, of Stevens Creek Rd., Augusta, GA, and formerly of Drexel, NC, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at the Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta following an extended period of declining health. She was born January 19, 1924 in Burke County, NC, and was a daughter of the late William Andrew Baker and Emma Elizabeth Aiken Baker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick Howard Cordell; a daughter, Wanda Faye Cordell; brothers, John, Jess, William, and Robert Baker; and sisters, Ethel Mae Benfield, Bertha Branch, Blonnie McNeely, Margaret Hubbard, and Maude Baker Childres. Lillian was a lifetime member of the Drexel First Baptist Church and a US Navy veteran of World War II. She was devoted to her family, and enjoyed shopping and traveling. She was a retired employee of Drexel Knitting Mill.
She is survived by a daughter, Janice C. Martin and husband, John T., of Evans, GA; grandsons, Michael C. Martin and wife, Christy, and Stephen P. Martin, all of Indian Trail, NC, and Eric C. Martin of Evans, GA; a great granddaughter, Elyzabeth Marie Martin of Indian Trail; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 6, 2006 at the Drexel First Baptist Church with Rev. Tito Madrazo officiating. Burial will follow at Drexel Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 until 11 am at the church. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Winona Childres, 102 Mountain View St., Drexel.
