Lillian Williams Smith, 79 of Morganton, NC passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018. Born in McDowell County on June 30, 1938, she was a daughter of the late John A. Williams and Molly Wright Williams.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Drowning Creek. She loved her family, senior friends and her church. She was well thought of by her friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Smith, Jr.; sister, Fairy Haynes; and brothers, John and Sam Williams.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her children, Christine Buff and husband, Paul of Morganton, Sherri Byrd, and Tommy Smith both of Burnsville. Also surviving are grandchildren, Joy Hunter and husband, Ed, Rodney Buff and wife, Laura, Wayne Buff and wife, Summer, Jason Buff and partner, Delantre, William Byrd, Jacob Byrd, Shannon Byrd, Trendon Byrd, Christopher Byrd and wife, Sabrina, and Logan Smith; twelve great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Bernice Evans of Tennessee; and a special niece, Kathy Buchanan.
The family will receive friends from 2 – 3 p.m., Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Gouge and Rev. Cal Parrish officiating. The burial will follow at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be wearing blue in her memory.
