Lillie Mae Fortenberry Buff

Lillie Mae Fortenberry Buff, 87, of Valdese, NC went to her Heavenly Home on Thursday, May 3, 2012. Born in Cleveland County, NC on May 10, 1924, she was the daughter of the late John Molton Fortenberry and Susan Catherine Hoyle Fortenberry. Lillie was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and was active in the U.M.W. She retired from Western Carolina Center. Lillie loved to garden, can vegetables, quilt, and do crafts.She is survived by her daughter, Frances Burroughs of Morganton; grandsons, Thomas and Daniel Eaker; and two sisters, Mary Martin and Selma Ledford and her husband, James.In addition to her parents, Lillie was preceded in death by husband, Oren Pinkney Buff; a daughter, Shelia Buff; a grandson, Ronald Oren Towell; a brother, A.J. Fortenberry; and two sisters, Ruth Harris and Pearl Hamby.The funeral will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Christ United Methodist Church with Reverends Martha Buff Welch and Charles F. Gibbons officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Hill United Methodist Church in Casar, NC. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. At other times the family will be at Lillie’s home.Memorial contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 38, Drexel, NC 28619. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
