Linda Julien, 81, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 13, 2023. Born in Canton, OH on May 8, 1941, she ventured further north to attend Michigan State University, where she received her degree in special education and met the love of her life, Gary Julien. Together, they embarked on many adventures, including a move south in 1988. Morganton quickly became her home and she embraced the opportunity to become active in the community.

She was passionate about family, friends, education, animals, and nature. Those who had the good fortune to know her knew that she could be relied upon to listen, help out in a pinch, and undertake a good cause. She was a lifelong member of PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) International, focused on helping women achieve their highest aspirations through education, and served numerous times as President of the local chapter. For many years, Linda tended a bluebird trail in Morganton and was active in the Mimosa Garden Club, spending countless hours on various beautification projects including the gardens at the Captain Charles McDowell, Jr. House.

Linda is survived by her husband, Gary; children Stacey and Jeff; grandchildren Matt (Nicole), Kristina (Neal), Jace (Brianna), Lindsay (Daniel), and Janae (Nathan); great-grandchildren Noah, Jonathan, Grayson, Aiden, Madeline, Alyanna, and Luke; sister-in-law Carol; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the Captain Charles McDowell, Jr. House.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Linda was the kind of person one could always count on. I am so sad she has left us but she will be at peace with the Lord. I send love to her family. She was an inspiration to me through her work with the Mimosa Garden Club and her blue bird trail. What a wonderful lady!!!!!!!!!

You will be so missed, but remembered forever in our hearts. You had a quiet way of making everyone feel special, a warm heart and a passionate love of “Peeps” that we will never forget. We definitely will plant a tree in your memory and try to cultivate the love of gardening that was part of your heart. Thanks for being our friend, writing all your beautiful letters, and the privilege of being part of your family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Gary and Jeff and all of your family and friends.
