Linda Mae York Huffman, 65, of Morganton left her earthly home on Saturday, October 19, 2024 after a short period of declining health. Born January 1, 1959 in Burke County, she was the daughter of the late Coy James York and Mae Marie Baugus York. In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her brothers Larry, Roger and James York.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband and high school sweetheart of 48 years, David Mark Huffman, a sister Patricia York Kanupp of Hickory, her children Jada Huffman Swartz and husband Richard of Mooresville, David Mark Huffman Jr. and wife Diedra of Morganton, Katie Huffman Campbell and husband Carson of Morganton. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren whom she adored Ridge, Lauren and Andrew Swartz, Marabeth, Samuel, Ryder and Annalyn Huffman as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Linda worked for 24 years at Drexel Heritage Furnishings and then finished her career as the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of Burke County Public Schools for the past 23 years. She also served as the secretary for the Burke County School Board. She recently retired in March of 2024. Linda was a perfectionist and always did everything to the best of her ability. She was a devout Christian, loved her church and singing in the church choir. She also served as the church clerk and treasurer for Walker’s Chapel Baptist Church for many years. Linda was both judge and chief judge in the Lower Fork Precinct for the Burke County Board of Elections. She loved doing this as an opportunity to serve her local community. Linda’s family was her pride and joy and they all felt that in the love and support she provided. She loved life, traveling, spending time with her family and antiquing with her husband. She also loved watching sports, watching anything her grandchildren did and cheering on the Carolina Tarheels. Linda was truly blessed with many friends throughout her life and loved to spend time catching up with them. She was a fierce and passionate daughter, wife, mother, Mimi, aunt and friend always willing to lend a listening ear, a helping hand and give her honest opinion. Her legacy will live on in the lives and hearts of all she has touched over the years.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 26 at 11:00 am at Walker’s Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 25 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm at Sossoman Funeral Home.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
