Lois Goff Powell

Lois Goff Powell, 76, died Sunday, August 3, 2008. Mrs. Powell was born May 20, 1932 in McDowell County to the late James Edward Goff and Lillie Mae Ayers Goff. She was a member of Faith Tabernacle Church in Marion, NC and retired from Western Carolina Center where she worked in housekeeping. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, of 52 years, Joe Mack Powell; a son, Joe Mack Powell, Jr.; a daughter, Sheena P. Winkler; a brother, Daniel Goff; and sisters, Alice Spencer, Frances Walton, and Annabelle Goff.Mrs. Powell is survived by sons, Charles Powell and his wife, Kathy, Edward Powell, and Donnie Powell and his wife, Amy, all of Morganton; brothers, James E. Goff of Lynchburg, VA and William L. Goff of Lake City, FL; sisters, Helen G. Wilt of Lynchburg, VA, Bessie G. Roland of Wythville, VA, Margie G. Mawyer of Midlothian, VA, Nancy G. New of Amherst, VA, Mary G. Jenkins of Lynchburg, VA, and Barbara G. Gooden, of Sunland, CA; eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2008, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Reverends Van Harold Davis and Calvin Lonon officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sossoman Funeral Home.
