Louise Dale Whisenant

Louise Dale Whisenant, 86, of Morganton died Sunday, May 12, 2019 after a period of declining health.  Born in Burke County, NC on June 10, 1932, she was the daughter of the late William Jenkins “Jink” Dale and Jessie Lenoir Seagle Dale.  Louise was a member of Burkemont Baptist Church, where she faithfully ministered the Sunday school class for 2 year olds with her close friends, Willa Dean Piercy and Julia Moore, until her retirement after 47 years.  She also cooked for many families, football teams, players, and her children.  She loved to sing with Golden Voices Choir at Burkemont.  Louise was a faithful daughter, mother, sister, aunt, and friend.  She was known for her feisty spirit and fierce love.

Louise is survived by her son, Rev. Andrew Whisenant and his wife, Jamie, of Morganton; “adopted” daughters, Ann Minkler (Rocky) of Kinston and Sharon Swinson of Morganton; grandchildren, Marlee (fiancé, Mandel), Kimberly (Brian), Tyler, Michael, and Brayleigh; great-grandchildren, Nathan and Brian; brother, Ralph Dale of Morganton; sister, Mary Sigmon of Conover; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her husband, JC “Red” Whisenant; son, Tony; daughter, Patty; 6 brothers; and a sister.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 17 at Burkemont Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Eddy Bunton, Dr. David Mills, and Rev. Preston Stainback officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
