Louise Perry Baker

Louise Perry Baker, 89, of Brookwood Dr., Valdese, NC passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, Friday, March 26, 2010. Born in Burke County, NC on September 16, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Ulys Wiley Perry and Hessie Mae Poteet Perry Sprouse. Louise was a retired employee of Alba Waldensian after 34 years of employment. As a lifelong member of Enon Baptist Church, she was a Sunday School teacher, a G. A. leader, and was a member of the Joy Belles and Senior Saints. Louise was an avid reader, flower gardener, and crossword puzzle fan. She loved cooking for family, friends, and church functions and was a caretaker for her grandchildren during their childhood. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.Louise is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Russell S. Baker of the home; a son, Gregory R. "Greg" Baker and wife, Kim Ritchie Baker, of Drexel, NC; grandchildren, Natalie Baker of Drexel and Bryant R. Baker of Drexel and his fiancé, Pamela R. Goins of Morganton; a brother, J.C. Perry of Morganton; sisters, Ruth Ramsey of Valdese and Nelda King of Greensboro, NC; and a number of nephews and nieces.In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by a brother, Ulys William "Buddy" Perry, and sisters, Mollie Wright and Inez Walker.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, March 29, 2010 at Enon Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Garner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the home.
