Lucy Carswell Moore

Lucy Carswell Moore, 88, of Grace Heights, and formerly of Crawley Dale St. in Morganton, NC went home to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday night, February 26, 2008 following a period of declining health. She was born Oct. 26, 1919 in Burke County, NC, and was a daughter of the late P.A. "Bub" Carswell and Anner Huffman Carswell. Lucy was a long time member of Carswell Memorial Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday school. She attended Grace Baptist Church for 5 years before Lucy made her home at Grace Heights. She had worked in hosiery mills for many years, and loved working in her vegetable and flower gardens.Lucy is survived by nephews, James Wellman and wife, Lucy, and Edison Wellman and wife, Ruth, all of Morganton; and numerous friends.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cossie C. Moore; an infant daughter; and sisters, Cora Wellman, Sadie Sweeney, Mary Huffman, and Lula Settlemyre.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 28, 2008 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Marty Bess officiating. Burial will follow at Carswell Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday one hour before the service at the funeral home.
