Lucy Smith Ledford

Lucy Smith Ledford, 92, of Morganton, NC passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Shaire Center in Lenoir. She was born on April 13, 1925 in Cleveland County, NC and was the daughter of the late Vance Smith and Junie Mae Smith. Lucy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She retired from Southern Devices after 30+ years. Lucy loved her family dearly. She was a longtime member of Burkemont Baptist Church where she served in several capacities through the years. Lucy loved gardening, crocheting, but especially enjoyed cooking for her family.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Floyd Ledford; sisters, Barbara Smith Greene and Odear Smith Towery; and brothers, John, Alfred, Bob, and Gerald Smith.
She is survived by sons, Jack Andrew Ledford, Joel Ledford and wife, Susan, Mackie Dale Ledford and wife, Donna; grandchildren, Bonnie Strowd, Chuck Ledford, Travis Ledford, Abbi Williams, Janie Ledford, Mary Ledford, and Samantha Ledford; great-grandchildren, Hank Ledford, Ellie Williams, and Frank Ledford; and sister, Hilda Smith White of Parson, WV.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Burkemont Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at the church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Eddy Bunton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Burkemont Baptist Church Above and Beyond Fund, 4468 Burkemont Rd., Morganton, NC 28655.
