Luella Watts Wilson, 91, of Morganton, NC passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by family on Monday, April 25, 2022. Born in Burke County on September 4, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Zela Lucille Chapman and John Furman Watts. In addition to her parents, Luella was preceded in death by brothers Jack Watts, Ernest Watts, and John Ervin Watts of Morganton; sisters Beulah Smith and Betty Secrest of Morganton; and beloved husband of 71 years, Hank Jefferson Wilson of Morganton.
She is survived by a sister, Blanche Berry and brothers, William Watts and Herman Watts; her daughter, Cynthia Wilson Pitt and husband, William of St. Paul, Minnesota; a granddaughter, Amanda Marie Pitt of Laramie, WY; also, a grandson, Jefferson Linwood Pitt and wife, Ban of Charlotte, NC and grandson Brian Wilson Pitt and wife, Karlee of Cottage Grove, MN. In addition, she is survived by three great-grandsons; Michael Wilson Pitt and Ethan Saadeh Pitt of Charlotte, NC and Theo Wilson Pitt of Cottage Grove, MN. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Luella was born and raised in Burke County, NC. She was employed by Pilgrim Full Fashion Hosiery Mills and later by Martinat Hosiery Mills in Valdese. She also worked at Shadowline and Western Carolina Center in Morganton. She loved her family dearly. Researching family genealogical records was a favorite pastime. She loved writing cards and letters to close friends and family. She enjoyed keeping flower gardens. She was generous and often helped others in need. She was part of the “Apple Dumplin’ Gang” that cared for a retired missionary and others.
‘Nana’ will be dearly missed by all other family and many friends. She kept everyone on the move and always “on the go”. We loved her sweet spirit and boundless energy. Luella had a deep and abiding faith in Christ. During her life she was a member of Missionary Ridge Baptist Church, Enon Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Morganton, and North Cross Baptist Church.
The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 29, 2022 at Burke Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Amorem Hospice, Samaritan’s Purse for Ukraine, or South Mountain Children’s Home.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
