Luther "Cecil" Franklin

Luther “Cecil” Franklin, 89, of Drexel, NC passed away peacefully Saturday, October 8, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Burke County, NC on August 17, 1927, the son of the late Luther Mark Franklin and Minnie Baker Franklin Bartlett. Cecil was a member of Drexel First Church of God. He was a Veteran of the United States Armed Forces. He retired as a truck driver and mechanic. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by siblings, Marie Buff, Reba Buff, Vernie Franklin, Ruby Cline, and Newlas Franklin.
Cecil is survived by his wife of 66 years, Reta Carpenter Franklin; sons, Robert Franklin and Mark Franklin and wife, Marie; daughters, Vickie Pendley and Robin McNeely; grandchildren, Tammy Burnette and husband, Jonathan, Jeffery Campbell, Lee Ann McNeely, Robbie Franklin and wife, Ashley, and Ally Franklin; great-grandchildren, Sydney Burnette and Sara Burnette; sister, Norene Anthony; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Rev. Don Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Drexel First Church of God Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Drexel First Church of God, P.O. Box 218, Drexel, NC 28619.
