Luther "Edward" Dale

Luther "Edward" Dale, 79, of Jenkins Rd. in Morganton died Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at Burke Palliative Care Center in Valdese following a brief illness. He was born August 25, 1930 in Burke County, and was a son of the late Joe T. Dale and Edith Baker Dale. Ed was a member of Burkemont Baptist Church for 55 years where he had served as a Deacon, church bus driver, chief financial officer, and member of the transportation committee. Edward was a US Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict, and a retired employee of Breenden’s Poultry where he had worked as a truck driver and maintenance worker.He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ann Carolyn Fisher Dale of the home; grandchildren, Kevin Brian Dale and Amy Denise Snow; great-grandchildren, Brandon, William, Josh, and Brittney Snow; daughter-in-law, Nancy C. Dale; dear friend, Crystal Copper; mother-in-law, Eva Fisher; and a number of cousins.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Edward Dale.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Burkemont Baptist Church with Rev. Eddy Bunton, Rev. Dr. David Mills, and Rev. Dr. Mark Pridgen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by Valdese American Legion Post #234. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes before the funeral hour.
