Luther Eugene "Gene" Stines

Luther Eugene "Gene" Stines, Jr., 73, of Morning Star Church Rd., Morganton, NC died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at the Charles George V.A. Medical Center in Asheville, NC following a period of declining health. He was born May 30, 1935 in Walnut, NC, and was the son of the late Luther Stines and Nea Rice.Gene is survived by his wife, Winnie Hensley Stines; sons, Daniel Stines of Morganton, Dewayne Stines and Jimmy Stines, both of Asheville, and Daine Stines of Detroit, Michigan, and Lee McIntosh and Keith McIntosh, both of Morganton; a daughter, Renee Vazquez of Campobello, SC; grandchildren, Jennifer Jordan, Jason Stines, James Stines, Jeremy Riddle, Stacy Melton, and Tyler Cartee; and great-grandchildren, Kimberly Jordan, Megan Morgan, Shaaleigh Stines, and Celeste Riddle.A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 7, 2008 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Marty Bess, Rev. Bob Deviney, and Mr. Daniel Eugene Stines officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Valdese American Legion Post #234. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
