Luther Ray Beck

Luther Ray Beck, 77, of Morganton went to his heavenly home on Saturday, July 21, 2018.  Born in Burke County, NC on August 20, 1940, he was the son of the late Conley Luther Beck and Ruth Ida Mae Whisenant Beck.  Luther had attended Brookwood Baptist Church and retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, beekeeping, and attending Freedom High School football games.

Luther is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy “Christine” Bolding Beck; son, Johnny Ervin Beck (Judy Ann) of Morganton; daughter, Pattie Beck Mullins (Lane) of Morganton; grandchildren, Frank E. Fields, Jr., Patrick Harlow (Beverly), Scott Harlow, Victoria Fields, Elizabeth Bradley (Charley), Dawn May (Scotty), Sammy St. John, Jr. (Crystal), and Jessie St. John (Leetah); and great-grandchildren, Josiah, Jeremiah, Gracie, Emma, Jaydelyn, Gwendolyn, Tommy, Kylee, Destiny, Jasmine, Harley, Sawyer, Skyler, Emily, and Athena.

In addition to his parents, Luther was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, J. Lloyd and Ella Mae Whisenant; paternal grandparents, Pinkney and Mattie Beck; and son-in-law, Torry Lane Mullins.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.  The memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Revs. Earl Cross and Charley Bradley officiating.
