Lydia Yancey Deal, 73, of Cook Rd., Valdese died Monday, March 30, 2009, at Frye Regional Medical Center. She was born in Burke County on June 26, 1935 and was a daughter of the late Harley Luico Yancey and Brentie Deal Yancey. Lydia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister and will be remembered for her love of gardening. She was a member of Valdese Church of God.She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ken E. Deal, of the home; sons, Bryan K. Deal and his wife, Angela, of Connelly Springs, Thurman W. Deal of Valdese, and Rev. Shurman C. Deal and his wife, Charleen, of Drexel; daughter, Angela Deal Williams, of Connelly Springs; grandchildren, Lydia J. Roark, Odessa Legters, Aaron Deal, Gracen Deal, Josiah Deal, and Nathaniel Deal; great-granddaughters, Natalie Deal, Katrina Roark, Danielle Legters, and Athena Chapman; and brothers, Dwain "Dick" Yancey of Goldsboro, Ben Yancey of Morganton, Harley R. Yancey of Charlotte, and Michael G. Yancey, of Winston-Salem.In addition to her parents, Mrs. Deal was preceded in death by a son, Ken E. Deal, Jr.; a daughter, Katherine Beth Deal; brother, Harold Yancey; and sister, Annie Mae McGimsey.
The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Reverends Howard Trumble and Shurman C. Deal officiating. Committal services will be held at noon Thursday at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour before the funeral.
