Mabel E. Bennett Huffman

Mabel E. Bennett Huffman, 87, of Morganton died Monday, August 14, 2017.  Born on April 30, 1930 in Burke County, she was the daughter of the late Franklin Pledge and Minnie Bennett Pledge.

Mabel graduated in 1948 from Glen Alpine High School.  She was a long time member of Glen Alpine First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the choir.  She later started attending First Baptist Church of Morganton and was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class.  She also served as treasurer of the Catawba River Baptist Association.

Mabel is survived by her son, Gary Huffman and wife, Cheryl of Morganton; grandchildren, Stephanie Huffman Kinsland and husband, Seth of Franklin, NC, Jennifer Huffman Gragg and husband, Joshua, of Morganton; and her precious great-granddaughter, Harper Gragg.

In addition to her parents, Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wayne Huffman and daughter, Mendy E. Huffman whom for thirty-nine years they lovingly and devotedly cared for.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Wednesday, August 16, 2017 in the parlor of First Baptist Church of Morganton.  The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the church with Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. and Dr. Sam Murphy officiating.  Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
