Mabel Leonard Walker, 97, of Morganton, NC passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024. She was born on October 18, 1927 in Caldwell County to the late Ben Marcus Leonard, Sr. and Alma Moore Leonard. She was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mabel worked in the banking industry. She loved her family dearly and was the matriarchal figure of the family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James “Sie” Walker: siblings, an infant sister, Minnie Cathline Leonard, Jack Leonard, Charles Leonard, Roy Leonard, Betty Lyle, Garland Franklin, Jim Franklin, Bob Franklin, Evelyn Yohn, and Mindora Lutz.
Mabel is survived by her siblings, Mary Simpson, Diane Wiberg, Rachel Watkins, and Benny Leonard, Jr.; and a number of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Services for Mabel will be held at a later date.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
