Mable Berniece Meeks Mull, 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Grace Ridge in Morganton, NC. Born February 13, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Eula Gregory Meeks. Mable grew up in Swannanoa and graduated from Berea College in Berea, Kentucky where she met her husband of 62 years, B. Rondal Mull.
Mable worked as a dietician at Broughton Hospital and as a high school science teacher at the North Carolina School for the Deaf. She retired with 30 years of state service.
Mable and Rondal were lifelong residents of Burke County where they were active in the Drexel and Morganton communities. Together they enjoyed traveling, golfing, genealogy and the publishing of the Mull, Gregory and McNeely family histories.
In her later years, Mable enjoyed her time with her Grace Ridge friends, playing bridge, mahjong and reading. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Nothing gave her greater pleasure than following her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives through social media. She was their “Mommay”.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband, Rondal Mull. She is survived by daughter, Lynne McCarthy and husband, Mike of Roswell, GA and their children, Ben Allen, Caitlin McCarthy and Brian McCarthy; daughter, Susan Ellis and husband, Dr. DeWitt Ellis of High Point, NC and their children, Dr. Chase Ellis and his wife, Jessica, and great-grandchildren, Peyton and Logan Ellis; Dr. Stuart Ellis and Dr. Spencer Ellis; daughter, Janet Crump and husband, Ronnie of Morganton and their son, Casey Crump. She is also survived by her sisters, Ruth Bringman of Mt. Dora, FL, and Annette Baber and husband, Larry of Hendersonville, NC; sister-in-law, Mickey Cook; brother-in-law, Bill K. Mull.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 from 10:00am until 11:00am at the First United Methodist Church of Morganton. The funeral service will be held at 11:00am in the church sanctuary with the Rev. Dr. John Fowler and Rev. Charlotte Brendel officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 N. King St, Morganton, NC 28655 or to the Burke County History Museum, PO Box 416, Morganton, NC 28680.
