Mable Queen Hoke, 81 of Morganton, NC, passed away January 6, 2020. Born on January 3, 1939, she was the daughter to the late Glenn and Vertie Queen. Mable was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. She worked at Drexel Heritage and retired from NC Department of Social Services in 2002.
Mable is survived by her sisters-in-law, Ann Hoke Paschal, Frances F. Queen; nephew, Kennedy Lee Queen, (Joseph Williams); niece, Kara Kay Queen; and dear friends, Linda and John Woods.
In addition to her parents, Mable is preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Pinkney Hoke; sister, Ruth Queen McDowell; brother, Lemuel Floyd Queen; brother-in-law, Wayne McDonald; niece, Jane M. Stroupe.
The family will receive friends from 10:00am until 11:00am, Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Salem UMC. The funeral service will be held at 11:00am, in the sanctuary of the church with the Rev. Norm Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 1206 Salem Road, Morganton, NC 28655 or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
The family thanks the nurses, LPN’s, CNA’s, and staff of Burke Hospice and Grace Heights for their care and concern during her stay at Grace Heights as a hospice patient.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
