Madelyn Patton Walker, of Morganton, NC died Sunday, May 4, 2014. She was born September 23, 1925 in Burke County and was the daughter of the late Alvis Perry Yates and Edris McGimsey Yates. Madelyn attended Morganton City Schools, Winston-Salem City Schools and Mars Hill College. She was program director and on air personality at WMNC Radio Station for 29 years. Manager of the Lighting Center, a volunteer at the Morganton-Burke Library and one of the original ushers at CoMMA. She traveled around the world and was a tour director for the Morganton-Burke Senior Center taking groups throughout the United States and the world. She was a member of Mimosa Hills Golf Club and twice president of the Morganton Women's Club. Madelyn was a member of First United Methodist Church.She is survived by her husband, Charles Walton Walker of the home; a number of step children; six step-grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by previous husbands, Joe Patton and Arthur Nelson.Celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 8, 2014 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Fowler and Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting with arrangements.
