Mae Amos O’Quinn, 84, died Monday, September 19, 2011 at Burke Hospice & Palliative Care Center. She was born in Mayodan, NC on April 19, 1927 and was a daughter of the late Frank Everett Amos and Ethel Kellam Amos. Mae was a retired employee of Drexel-Heritage Furnishings, and following her retirement was a volunteer at Valdese General Hospital. She was an accomplished seamstress who loved to travel with her husband and grandchildren.Surviving are her son, Thomas Edward O’Quinn of Wilmington; her daughter, Deborah Sue O’Quinn of Drexel; a sister, Katherine Gray Lamkin of Greensboro; grandchildren, Rhonda Brewer of Morganton, Elethia Robinson of Vale, and Robert Lee O’Quinn of Wilmington; great-grandchildren, Nichole Spearman, Stanley Troy Spearman, III, Machaé Robinson and Whitni Robinson; and special friends, Margaret Glazebrooks and Jimmy and Mary McNeely. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Joshi, Valdese General Hospital, Carolinas Medical Center, Burke Hospice, and all staff who so lovingly assisted with Mae’s care.In addition to her parents, Mae was preceded by her husband, Edward Paul O’Quinn, and brother, Francis Taylor Amos.Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Bob Seitz officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Sossoman Funeral Home.
