Margaret Carson Rice

Margaret Carson Rice, 70, of Morganton, NC passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017. She was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on March 2, 1947 and was the daughter of Arthur Carson and Margaret Flavelle Carson. Margaret was a former executive assistant at the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY. Margaret immigrated to the United State in 1974 from Belfast, Northern Ireland to give her children and subsequent generations greater opportunities. She was exceptionally proud of her children and grandchildren and her commitment to her religious faith. Margaret was an avid community volunteer who always put others needs ahead of her own.
She was preceded in death by her father and granddaughter, Terri McKenna Smith. She is survived by her husband, Terence L. Rice of the home; her mother Margaret Carson of Belfast, Northern Ireland; children, Terence M. Rice and wife Leila of Lambertville, NJ, Maria Greta Smith and husband, Buck, of Morganton, Kevin Rice and wife Cara of State College, PA; and Angelene Fortune and former son-in-law, Darrell of Morganton; brothers, Joseph Carson and Arthur Carson both of Northern Ireland; sister, Mary McKeown of Australia; and grandchildren, Kayla McNeely, Clara Rice, Aidan Rice, Benjamin Fortune, Carson Rice, Elijah Fortune, and Amelia Rice.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 19, 2017 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. A private service for the immediate family will be held at a later date.
