Margaret Lee Church, 71, of Drexel passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.
Born in Elkin, NC on June 2, 1947, she was the daughter of Pauline Stanley Church Arseneau and the late Dallas E. Church. Margaret attended Hickory High School and was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne University. Shortly after her graduation, she began a career in education with Burke County Public Schools as a teacher and later Program Services Director. She supervised testing, Title I, technology, and staff development.
Margaret was known as a giving person who enjoyed opportunities where she could be of service to others. She was an active member of Drexel First Baptist Church and Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society for key women educators. She loved being with her friends and was always the life of the party.
Margaret is survived by her mother, Pauline Stanley Church Arseneau (Joe) of Morganton; niece, Shannon Carolla of Jacksonville, NC; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Church of Charleston, SC.
In addition to her father, Margaret was preceded in death by brother, Michael Arnold Church; and twin sister, Mary Church Thomas.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, January 7, 2019 at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Monday at Drexel First Baptist Church. A celebration of Margaret’s life will follow at 3 p.m. at the church with Rev. Michael Duncan officiating.
