Margaret W. Benfield

Margaret W. Benfield, 91, of the Oak Hill Community in Morganton, NC went to be reunited with her family on Friday, November 15, 2013. Born in Burke County, NC on July 20, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Jimmie Lee Whisenant ad Sallie Whisenant Whisenant. Margaret was a member of Zion Baptist Church where she taught children’s Sunday school, was a member of the W.M.U., and was a member of the Beulah Circle. Margaret retired from Morganton Hosiery with over 40 years of service. She loved gardening and canning and was a cancer survivor of 48 years. Margaret was a very compassionate person who ended all her talks with "thank you, thank you, thank you." She will be truly missed.A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Margaret is survived by her sons, J.C. Benfield and his wife, Juanita, of Union, SC and Warren Benfield and his wife, Linda, of Morganton; grandchildren, Julie Fowler, Jeff Benfield and his wife, Angie, and Jennifer Carlisle and her husband, Travis; great-grandchildren, Blake Fowler, Jake Benfield, Sydney Carlisle, and Benfield "Ben" Fowler; and sisters, Naomi Freeman and her husband, Granville, and Irene Powell, both of Morganton.In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Noah Jacob Benfield; a brother, Calvin Whisenant; and a sister, Ethel Kincaid.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 18, 2013 at Zion Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Parker and the Rev. Keith Rose officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
