Margaret Whisnant Smith

Margaret Whisnant Smith, 87, of Morganton went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 19, 2018.  Born in Burke County, NC on April 19, 1931, she was the daughter of the late William Sidney Whisnant and Mamie Secrest Whisnant.  She worked at U. Save, Britthaven Nursing Home, and retired from Feree Cleaners.  She was also a dedicated homemaker who took care of her family.

Margaret is survived by her daughters, Kathy Glazebrooks (Steve) of Granite Falls and Christine “Becky” Carswell (Manley) of Morganton; sons, Harold Smith (Lisa) and Jerry Smith (Carolyn), both of Morganton; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and her friend and caregiver, Mickie Lee Hendrix.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Smith; great-grandson, Jake O’Connor Moody; brothers, Dickie, Bennett, Ervin, Gene, and Ed Whisnant; and sisters, Catherine Rector and Sue Cline.

The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.  The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Chaplain Laura Roach officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.
