Margie Averee Curtis, 81, went home to be with the Lord after several years of declining health. She was born in Polk County on April 19, 1930 and was a daughter of the late Ira Belton Greenlee and Julie Ellen Greenlee; Margie was one of twelve children, all of whom preceded her in death. She worked in the textile industry for several years and owned and operated Margie?s Day Care until her retirement 20 years ago. Margie was a charter and devoted member of New Beginnings Baptist Church where she was very active until failing health and the care of her loving husband kept her from attending.Margie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and doting great-grandmother. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Buren Curtis; sons and their wives, J. D and Brenda Curtis and Allen and Vickie Curtis; daughter and her husband, Hazel and Jack Bryant, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Kim Wiles of Greenville, SC, Michelle Bryant, Jason Curtis of Hickory, Michelle Bryant, Melissa Curtis, Julie Curtis, and T. C. Pendley all of Morganton; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members.The funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, November 14, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with the Reverends Bob Deviney and Earl Cross officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday at the funeral home from 11:00 until 12 noon. At other times the family will be at the home of J. D. and Brenda Curtis on Phoenix Drive, Morganton.
