Margie Griffin McGee

Margie Griffin McGee, 86, of Morganton died Monday, November 5, 2012 at her residence. Born on March 16, 1926 in York County, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Griffin and Samantha Elrod Griffin. Margie was a member of First Baptist Church in Morganton and was an active member of the Cauble Sunday School Class. She was an avid bridge player and was active in the Pilot Club, the Women’s Club, the Merry Widows Club, and the Friendship Force.A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Margie is survived by her daughters, Linda Selby of Charlotte, NC, Sherry Jackson and her husband, Maurice, of Cliffside, NC; a son, Richard McGee and his wife, Suzanna, of Hickory, NC; grandchildren, Matthew McGee, Christopher McGee, Sarah McGee, Hannah McGee, Lisa Rothenberg, Amy Selby, Emily Cooper, Tracey Barnes, and Chuck Bryson; great-grandchildren, Chloe Rothenberg, Maggie Rothenberg, Jacob Cooper, Layla Cooper, Caroline Bryson, Nathan Bryson, Ashley Barnes, Nicholas Barnes, and Desmond Barnes; and a sister, Thelma Hawkins and her husband, Keyner, of Cedar Rock, NC.In addition to her parents, Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred B. McGee; and two brothers, Frank and Tom Griffin.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 9, 2012 in the Chapel at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends in the church parlor for one hour prior to the service. The graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir, NC.Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
