Marie Carswell McCurry

Marie Carswell McCurry, 77, of Conley Rd. in Morganton went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at her residence. She was born March 23, 1931 in Burke County, and was a daughter of the late David Blume Carswell and Lacie June Yount Carswell. Marie was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. She was a good neighbor and friend, and loved to help others.Marie is survived by a son, Gary McCurry and wife, Phyllis, of Morganton; a daughter, Janice Childers and husband, Gary, of Morganton; a special granddaughter that was raised by Marie, Amy McCurry Waddell; grandchildren, Brittany Childers, Ryan Childers, and Melissa Reep; great-grandchildren, Lacie Smalley, Abby Killam, and Wyatt Reep; sisters, Virginia McCurry and Josephine Burnett; and a special friend and neighbor, Betty Mull.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Anders McCurry; and a sister, Elizabeth "Tooter" Duckworth.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Dewey Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. At other times, the family will be at Marie’s home.
