Marie Q. Giles

Marie Q. Giles died Friday, March 2, 2012 following a period of declining health. Marie was born in Burke County on August 25, 1921 and was a daughter of the late Garland L. and Maggie Maye Anthony. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hampton Giles; her first husband, Gordan Queen, Jr.; her daughter, Germaine Queen; and her sister, Zelda Maye Powell. Marie retired from the News Herald after more than 60 years of service. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Morganton and the Dorcas Sunday School Class.Surviving are her nieces, Brenda Brendle and her husband, Jeff, of Kings Mountain, NC and Greta Herman of Drexel.Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2012 at Burke Memorial Park with Dr. Thomas A. Bland officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home & Crematory Center.
